Let's Move (our website)!

Moving from one house to another - SHEESH!

Like so many of you all, I'm not a huge fan of moving from one place to another. Don't get me wrong, I'm always up for an adventure, but to pack your belongings into boxes, renting a moving truck, trying to get people to help, it is a hassle. But it's life, so here I go, moving....

So this got me thinking about my next article I'll be writing on this site - "Moving Your Website". It's one thing to just move to a new hosting provider, but when you also move from your existing domain name to a new one, there's lots of considerations to be made!

"do·main name: /dōˈmān ˌnām/, noun - the part of a network address that identifies it as belonging to a particular domain."

As far as SEO is concerned, you definitely want to redirect your old domain to the new one & recapture all of that good good Google Link/Page Authority/Domain Authority to your new name. Using Apache Webserver, you can simply do this yourself (IF you control your website yourself. If you pay your hosting provider, or a 3rd party, then they will be glad to do this for you - as considerable prices!). What you would do is set up a Permanent 301 Redirect in your .htaccess file, like so:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^example-old-site.com [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.example.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://example-NEW-site.com/$1 [L,R=301,NC]

Once I write the article on "Moving Your Website", I'll be sure to ping this blog, so ya'll can read up on it!
